About Affliction And Disease

And the LORD said to him, “Who gives man speech? Who makes him dumb or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?”

Exodus 4:11 (Torah)

You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, or any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth below, or in the waters under the earth.  You shall not bow down to them or serve them.  For I the LORD your God am an *impassioned God, visiting the guilt of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generations of those who reject Me, but showing kindness to the thousandth generation of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Exodus 20:4-6 (Torah)

*Jealous God

A vast multitude of people and many nations have been lifted up and then destroyed; because they became unmindful of the Lord, arrogant, filled with pride, and confident in themselves.  They preferred to follow the inclinations of their heart, instead of fearing the Lord and obeying the Word of God.

You shall not swear falsely by the name of the LORD your God; for the LORD will not clear one who swears falsely by His name.

Exodus 20:7 (Torah)

When the Lord says that he will not clear one who swears falsely by his name, the following example is what he is referring to:  There was a man who told a lie, and when he was confronted for lying, he swore:  “God forbid that I should tell a lie!”  When we use the name of the Lord in a disrespectful manner, this offends the Lord.  However, when we degrade the name of the Lord and reduce him to worldly standards, in order to justify our behavior, this is an even more serious offense against the Lord.  When we strike the Lord with pain; sometimes the Lord will strike us back.  Many people have suffered from heart attacks and disease, even when they have never smoked, for this reason.

Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God:   you shall not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, or your cattle, or the stranger who is within your settlements.  For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth and sea, and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11 (Torah)

I have learned that many of our afflictions are related to the Sabbath day, because we do not honor the Sabbath day and rest.  For example: Arthritis and Parkinson’s disease.

     You shall not murder...

Exodus 20:13 (Torah)

One day while I was watching the news; there was a story about two teenage girls, who were killed, while they were on their way to Tel Aviv.  They were riding a bus that was blown up by a roadside bomb.  One of the girls had just turned sixteen and begged her parents to let her go.  I was moved with sadness when I heard this story and then I thought that I could hear someone else weeping.  I stopped to listen and I heard the Lord say, “I weep for all of my children.”

There was a woman who had a sexual affair with a married man.  Later, the man was afraid that their relationship would be exposed and his reputation destroyed.  So he had the woman murdered.  The woman was innocent, because in the beginning, she did not know that the man was married.  The man lied to her and made empty promises.  She was young and she believed that she was in love with him.  The Lord allowed her to be killed, as an example to others, but she was lifted up to heaven.  However, the man who had her murdered will be held accountable and judged for his sins.

Some people will hold a woman accountable, because she has had a sexual relationship with someone else, other than her husband.  Most of the time the man who has seduced her is set free and they kill her for her sin.  Those, whom have judged her severely, will be judged with the same level of mercy, because they have been guilty of sexual misconduct too.

     ...You shall not commit adultery...

Exodus 20:13 (Torah)

Many people, whom have had a sexual relationship with someone else, who was married; often find themselves later betrayed, though their spouse.  This happens because the Lord wants you to understand the pain you have brought upon someone else and have an opportunity to repent.

Many parents have had their children seduced at an early age, because as young adults, they were disrespectful and seduced someone else.

A vast multitude of people have judged others, because of their sexual behavior; however, whether the door of sin is cracked open a little or all of the way, it still remains sin.  So if you have judged anyone else, while you have practiced any form of sexual perversity yourself; then the same level of compassion that you have shown or the lack thereof, will be demonstrated toward you.

Sexually transmitted diseases, need I say more?

If a fellow Hebrew, man or woman, is sold to you, he shall serve you six years, and in the seventh year you shall set him free.  When you set him free, do not let him go empty-handed:  Furnish him out of the flock, threshing floor, and vat, with which the LORD your God has blessed you.

Deuteronomy 15:12-14 (Torah)

The seven year itch is more than a coincidence.  When we marry for selfish reasons; without love and we take our spouse for granted; whether this may be as a breadwinner or a housekeeper or both; then, the spouse has been reduced from a husband or a wife and made into a servant/slave.  When that person is carrying the greater weight of the responsibilities, unloved; the Lord will purposely allow the circumstances to change, in order to release them from their bondage, so that they can be set free.

If, along the road, you chance upon a bird’s nest, in any tree or on the ground, with fledglings or eggs and the mother sitting over the fledglings or on the eggs, do not take the mother together with her young.  Let the mother go, and take only the young, in order that you may fare well and have a long life.

Deuteronomy 22:6-7 (Torah)

There is an ongoing debate among Jewish scholars, about an Israelite man, who was walking with his son.  While they were walking, the father was teaching his child about the law in Deuteronomy 22:6-7, concerning the mother bird and her fledglings/eggs. As they were walking, they came upon a nest and the father told his son to strike down the nest, according to the law.  The boy was obedient to his father; however, shortly thereafter, the child also died.  Many of them thought that perhaps the son had sinned. Perhaps the boy had a bad thought while he struck the nest down about the law, his father, or the birds.  However, the child was not at fault, his father was.  Because the father had no compassion for the life of the baby birds or cared about the feelings of the mother; the Lord showed no compassion for his child.  The Lord is the giver of life and loves and cares about all of his creation.  The Lord was offended because the father was so calloused.  Had the father and his son been hungry and the father had no means to provide food for them; then the Lord would have approved of the death of the young birds, so that they could be sustained.  As it was, the young birds were destroyed without justification.

The LORD will strike you with madness, blindness, and dismay.

Deuteronomy 28:28 (Torah)

There was a woman who became afflicted with dementia.  I prayed for her and I asked the Lord if he would be merciful toward her.  Later that evening, in a dream, I saw the woman holding a photo album and looking at pictures that she had collected over the years of her family, her friends, and some of the places she had been.  Then the Lord said, “When she was young she learned about me, but then she forsook me, and because she has loved these more than she has loved me; I have robbed her of her memory, so that just as she has forgotten me, she has also forgotten the ones whom she has loved more than me!”

When they arrived and he saw Eliab, he thought:  “Surely the LORD’s anointed stands before Him.”  But the LORD said to Samuel, “Pay no attention to his appearance or his stature, for I have rejected him.  For not as man sees [does the LORD see]; man sees only what is visible, but the LORD sees into the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:6-7 (Tanakh)

Some people may be afflicted in order to try the heart of humanity.  For example:   Anorexia, obesity, physical handicaps, or deformities. (1 Samuel 2:3, Psalms 139: 23, and Daniel 5:27) Now, more than ever, our society has become very vain.  When a person is rude toward someone else and they say something that is unkind, then their heart has been searched and their spirit has been weighed by the Lord.

Sometimes when we are physically afflicted, it is because we have been too proud; especially, when we have been blessed with physical beauty or strength.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth.  I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.  For I have come to turn 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law―a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.'  Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.  Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Matthew 10:34-39 (NIV)

Many people have lost their parents, their spouses, and their children prematurely; because they loved them, more than they loved the Lord.  Many couples have divorced for the same reason.  For consider this:  Have you ever loved someone else so much that you have said:  “I love them more than life itself,” “I do not know what I would ever do without them” or “They mean the world to me!”

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.  But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.  For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Matthew 12:35-37 (NIV)

There was a preacher entertaining guest in his home, the evening before service, and he told a joke to his guest about the Lord.  Later that same evening, I had a dream and I saw a man skating on thin ice.  The next day his wife apologized for her husband’s absence and said that her husband became severely ill overnight.  The following week, the preacher excused himself for his absence and said that he must have caught a flu bug or a serious case of food poisoning.  He said that he was having sharp pains, as if someone was stabbing him, with an ice pick or a knife.

I have since learned that the Lord dislikes jokes; however, he especially hates jokes that are related to him.

There is a bad habit many people have called backbiting/backstabbing.  Backbiting is when someone speaks slanderously about someone else, when they are not present, during the conversation.

There was a woman who had a bad habit of saying unkind things about other people, behind their back.  She even said mean spirited things about those whom she loved and who loved her in return.  She had a bad habit of gossiping.  This same person also suffered from severe back pain.  One evening, I had one of the most peculiar dreams, I have ever seen.  In the dream:  I was traveling inside a body, like a blood cell perhaps.  While I was moving through the body, the Spirit of the Lord explained to me what I saw.  I was looking at the spinal cord of the woman, who had the habit of backbiting.  I knew it was her, because while I was looking at her spine, I heard her complain about her back pain.  When I looked up and down her spine, it appeared as though everything was fine; I could not see a bruise or any damage to her back.  Then I was on the outside looking at her and I saw a horrific looking little demon.  He had one hand placed on the upper portion of her back and his other hand placed on the lower portion of her back.  The demon was gnawing aggressively on her back, like someone who was hungry and eating corn on the cob.  Next, I heard the Lord say, “Perhaps when she stops back biting others; I will have her own back stop biting her!”

There was a man who was very critical of his parent’s prejudices; then one day, the Lord allowed the circumstances of his life to become altered, so that his heart could be tried and his prejudices proven.

Jesus said:

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Luke 6:31 (NIV)

There was a woman who had no compassion for the homeless.  One day she said something sarcastic about them and the next day her home was destroyed.

There was a woman who had authority over children who were not her own.  The woman was their stepmother.  The children were abused emotionally and physically and frequently neglected.  When the children spoke to their mother about this, she in turn tried to speak to their father, but the father would not intervene.  The mother wept bitterly for the sake of her children, because she was helpless and did not know what to do.  The stepmother and her husband began having children of their own, and each of the children were afflicted with various diseases; some of their afflictions were severe and even life threatening.  When I learned about the woman, her children, and their suffering; I went to the Lord in prayer and I asked him if he would be merciful for the sake of the children. That same evening, in a dream, the Lord responded:  “She would not show compassion to the children of others, now that I have afflicted her own children, perhaps she will!”

Sometimes when a home is destroyed, it is because those who live there did not respect someone else’s property.  The Lord will not bless someone’s household, as long as they leave a path of filth and destruction in their wake, everywhere they go.

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written:  “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

Romans 12:19 (NIV)

Many people are troubled, because wicked people seem to get away with everything, including murder; however, if they have not been caught or if they have been, but never punished; justice will prevail, because the Lord will take revenge himself. Whether you have committed an act of murder directly or indirectly through someone else, you have not escaped the Lord's wrath.  If you have not been caught for breaking any other law; do not be deceived and believe that your actions have gone unnoticed; because the eyes of the Lord are never closed, and whether you sin in the light of day or are cloaked by the darkness of night―the Lord still sees everything. (Psalms 139:1-12)

Do not you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?  If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (NIV)

Some people have a tendency to be harmful toward others and they will be judged accordingly, because of their sins; while others are self destructive, and this is wrong too. Some people, whether because of foolishness or because they have been humbled by an experience(s) they have had in their life, have developed one or more addictions as a crutch.  For example: Smoking, alcoholism, drugs, and eating disorders; in order to comfort themselves and temporarily escape their circumstances.

I have been through experiences that I thought I would never live through or would ever heal from.  Whether in my personal life or in the spiritual realm, because of the dreams and visions that I have had; I wanted to escape and learned that if I drank alcohol, it would numb my body, control my emotions, and suppress my feelings.  Unfortunately, the alcohol began to control me.  One evening, in a dream, after I had been drinking for several years; I saw myself drinking and then I saw the place of everlasting darkness.  Then the Lord said, “I have watched you all of your life, how careful you have been, not to hurt others. But when you hurt yourself, you also hurt me!”  When the Lord said this:  I could hear the sadness in his voice and I could feel his disappointment in me.  This broke my heart and I quit drinking for a long time after this.  If you are struggling with an addiction, I hope that the experience I have shared with you will help you.

Many cancers are self explanatory.  For example:  If sexual organs are infected, it may be because of sexual promiscuity. Sometimes it is because someone is very proud of their sexual organs or exploits.  If the digestive tract is infected, it may be because of a poor diet.  If the cancer affects the breathing organs, it may be because of smoking.  If it is a cancer of the mind, it may be because of a perversion of the mind.

Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boast.  Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.  It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3:5-6 (NIV)

In a dream:  I saw the place of everlasting darkness, (Matthew 22:11-13) and there was a man sitting on a rock; trying to defend himself against another man, who was making sexual advances toward him.  I watched, while he pushed him away several times.  Then the next day, while I was in a public place, I had a very seductive vision of two men committing a sexual act together.  I could not understand why the Lord would show a vision like this to me, and I quickly turned away.  Almost immediately after I had this vision, I overheard a man sarcastically say to another man, “Make love to me!” (I am paraphrasing his words, because I would not want to repeat what he actually said.) The evening before, the Lord disclosed to me the judgment of this man, and how he would be held accountable for every word he spoke.

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.  I wish you were either one or the other!

Revelation 3:15 (NIV)

One day, I saw a woman who was cold toward the Lord, and disobeying the Word of God.  Later that evening, in a dream:  I saw a demon holding a voodoo doll that resembled the image of the woman and he was poking long needles into the doll’s face, around the sinus area.  There is a purpose for everything under the heavens; including allergies and pollen serves more than one purpose.

A person, who has a cold shoulder toward the Lord, may also be injured in the shoulder for this reason.

A person, who has been injured in the leg or the foot, may be injured because they refuse to walk according to the Laws of Moses.

In some places, especially among highly religious people; women are treated very badly because they either cannot have a child or they cannot bear a son.  It is unfortunate that so many people bring it upon themselves to cast judgment, without possessing the wisdom to understand why.  There are so many reasons why the Lord may curse someone’s seed or close a woman’s womb.  Sometimes the Lord does this when he is angry or because he has compassion for someone else and does not want to see them hurt.  For example:  Sometimes the Lord is angry with the manner in which a father has raised his son, so the Lord cuts off his seed.  Sometimes the man or the woman has had an illicit affair and someone else has been hurt.  Sometimes the Lord chooses to close a womb for a long time, so that when the couple does have a baby, they will appreciate the Lord and the baby more.  Sometimes the Lord has a better understanding of events that we cannot appreciate and the Lord has determined it would be in the couple’s best interest if they do not have a child.

In the Word of God, we have been warned that the sins of the fathers are a curse upon the children to the third and the fourth generation. (Exodus 20:5) This is often because children are kept in the dark and their parents are not honest with them.  Parents do not teach their children the lessons that they have learned from their own mistakes.  The children then become a mirrored image of their parents.  This can happen for two reasons.  First:   The parents are reminded of their sin, when they see their children repeating the same mistakes that they have made, in their past; in the hope that they may come to their senses and repent.  Secondly:  Children have a tendency to be very judgmental of their parents.

I am going to share one more dream with you about afflictions.  But before I do, I should mention that in the Word of God, when the Lord is angry, sometimes he uses very graphic words in order to express his anger.  In the Word of God, the Lord refers to some people as dogs, bastards, and whores.  In this dream, I saw a man who was naked and on his hands and knees, like a dog.  The man looked gray and ghostly and his expression was very sorrowful.  He had several chains wrapped around his neck, his ankles, and his wrists.  Each chain represented a habitual sin that he was guilty of committing, against the Lord and those he knew.  For example:  He used the name of the Lord in a vile, wicked manner, when he cursed; he did not honor his mother and he took severe, financial advantage of her; he indulged in pornography and he was a pedophile; he was full of pride, arrogant, hateful, and prejudiced; he was a thief and a liar, and he smoked and drank habitually.  In the end, the man lived several years suffering, with severe pain.  He was afflicted in several ways and he died sadly―in agony.  However, I know that this was only the beginning of his suffering; because I saw him die, die, and die again.

Now that I have shared this unfortunate dream with you; try to imagine what the Lord might see if he were to examine you. If you spent less time judging others and more time examining yourself, and you could see yourself in a similar position; how many chains would you see?  How many sins do you commit on a regular, habitual basis?

The Lord leaves a strong impression on me whenever he opens up his heart and confides his feelings to me.  When the Lord speaks, his words are eloquent and his judgments are poetic.  I am often dumbfounded and in more awe of the Lord, every time.

We find ourselves in a very complicated situation, at a very difficult time.  We are not permitted to judge those who came before us, and we cannot correct the past; however, the weight of the past is on our shoulders, and now we have become the wicked generation that was prophesied of in the Word of God, because of our ignorance.  We do not know our left hand from our right hand, and we do not know the difference between good and evil or right from wrong.  (Jonah 4:11)

We need to attempt to be the link that breaks the chain we have inherited from the past.  We need to be honest with our children.  We need to teach our children about the mistakes that we have made and the lessons we have learned because of them.  We need to share with our children how we have suffered and what we have lost, because of the choices we have made.  Then, we need to pray that our children will not follow closely in the footsteps of our past.

Each person was created by the Lord, for the Lord, to serve him and humanity.  The heart of humanity has been and continues to be tried, and those who have been hateful toward someone else, have prejudices, and believe that they are superior; will be sorely disappointed on the Day of Judgment.
