Happy is the man whom You discipline, O LORD, the man You instruct in Your teaching, to give him tranquility in times of misfortune, until a pit be dug for the wicked.
Psalms 94:12-13 (Tanakh)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 1:7 (Tanakh)
Do not reject the discipline of the LORD, my son; do not abhor His rebuke. For whom the LORD loves, He rebukes, as a father the son whom he favors.
Proverbs 3:11-12 (Tanakh)
See how happy is the man whom God reproves; do not reject the discipline of the Almighty, He injures, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands heal.
Job 5:17-18 (Tanakh)
When we are judged by the LORD, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
1 Corinthians 11:32 (NIV)
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
Some of the most difficult moments in my life have been when the Lord was disciplining me; however, I am comforted with the knowledge that if the Lord has disciplined me, and I have repented of my sins; then I won’t be judged as severely as someone else who has not known the Lord, on the Day of Judgment. The Lord is not like mankind, and once we have truly repented and turned away from sin; he does not keep drudging up the past. Once we have repented, the Lord will start to draw attention to another area in our lives that requires repentance. The Lord will continuously try to reshape and mold us from a worldly image, into one that may be more heavenly, like him. To the best of my knowledge, there are only two exceptions to this rule. First: When we become unmindful of our humanness and behave arrogantly; the Lord may remind us of our short comings, in order to bring us back down to earth. Secondly: If we become judgmental toward someone else, then the Lord may humble us and remind us of our previous sins.
