The Lord has been proving himself to us with great signs and wonders, for a long time now and during the last several decades in particular, it seems as though the Lord has been screaming: Repent! Unfortunately, we tend to behave like ants when this happens; because we scurry to bury the dead, we mend, and then we continue with our former activities. No one stops to ask why this is happening, and nothing changes, because we won’t repent. We have all sinned, and none of us have been immune from the heavy hand of the Lord.
In the book of Genesis, chapter 6:11-9:19, the earth is destroyed by a flood and in Genesis, chapter 18:16-19:29, we learn about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
For the LORD had closed fast every womb of the household of Abimelech because of Sarah, the wife of Abraham.

In Exodus, chapters 7-12 we learn about the plagues of Egypt.
You shall faithfully observe all My laws and all My regulations, lest the land to which I bring you to settle in spew you out.

The people took to complaining bitterly before the LORD. The LORD heard and was incensed: a fire of the LORD broke out against them, ravaging the outskirts of the camp.
Numbers 11:1 (Torah)
The meat was still between their teeth, not yet chewed, when the anger of the LORD blazed forth against the people and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.
Numbers 11:33 (Torah)
But if the LORD brings about something unheard-of, so that the ground opens its mouth wide and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, you shall know that these men have spurned the LORD.” Scarcely had he finished speaking all these words when the ground under them burst asunder, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all Korah’s people and all their possessions. They went down alive into Sheol, with all that belonged to them; the earth closed over them and they vanished from the midst of the congregation. All Israel around them fled at their shrieks, for they said, “The earth might swallow us!”
And a fire went forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men offering the incense.
Numbers 16:30-35 (Torah)
The LORD sent seraph serpents (snakes) among the people. They bit the people and many of the Israelites died.
Numbers 21:6 (Torah)
The book of Deuteronomy, chapter 28:15-68 contains a large list of various curses and afflictions, for those who do not obey the Laws of Moses. After reviewing this list, one might ask: Have any of us been spared from the Lords wrath?
The hand of the LORD lay heavy upon the Ashdodites, and He wrought havoc among them; He struck Ashdod and its territory with hemorrhoids.
1 Samuel 5:6 (Tanakh)
The LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from morning until the set time; and 70,000 of the people died, from Dan to Beer-sheba.

Job 38:22-23 (Tanakh)
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lust. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 1:24-32 (NIV)
When the Lord is angry with a person or a nation, he turns his back toward them and releases all kinds of evil upon them.
Most of the time we are afflicted because of our sins; sometimes we are afflicted because in the past, we did not show mercy or compassion toward someone else who was afflicted. There are times when those whom we love are afflicted, so that we might recognize our previous sins and repent. Sometimes we are afflicted so that the heart of someone else might be tried. And sometimes we are permitted to suffer in order that we may be tried and tested, to determine whether we will fear the Lord and obey his commandments. During the tribulation, a multitude of people will be tried in this last manner.
