It is Wisdom calling, Understanding raising her voice. She takes her stand at the topmost heights, by the wayside, at the crossroads, near the gates at the city entrance; at the entryways, she shouts, “O men, I call to you; my cry is to all mankind. O simple ones, learn shrewdness; O dullards, instruct your minds. Listen, for I speak noble things; uprightness comes from my lips; my mouth utters truth; wickedness is abhorrent to my lips. All my words are just, none of them perverse or crooked; all are straightforward to the intelligent man, and right to those who have attained knowledge. Accept my discipline rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; no goods can equal her.
Proverbs 8:1-11 (Tanakh)
Sometime during the beginning of my spiritual journey, I discovered that the Lord was very much aware of all of my activities, throughout the day. Whether I was curled up on the sofa, early in the morning and studying the Word of God, or in the barn cleaning; I could feel his presence near me. After I began to hear the voice of the Spirit of the Lord, I began to communicate with the Lord, in the same manner that he communicated with me; quietly, through thought provocations in my mind. This made a huge difference in my relationship with the Lord. From that moment on, we began to communicate on a regular, daily basis.
Through this realization; I also learned that no matter how much time I spent studying the Word of God, the Lord was aware of the amount of time I invested, learning his Word. Most of us like to be lifted up and we appreciate praise. At one time or another, we have all looked for attention and appreciated it, when we received it. The Lord also likes to be noticed and appreciated. When we set aside a portion of our time, committed to learning his Word, then we have paid him a compliment. When we take our time and really try to learn; then the Lord becomes an active teacher, and begins to open up our minds to concepts we may otherwise miss. Even today, after I have read the Word of God for over thirty years; I am still fascinated with the pearls of wisdom that I discover when I study.
It truly feels as though I am on a treasure hunt and every day I am rewarded because I am searching for understanding. Even today, the Lord is able to capture my attention and open up my heart, so that I may understand deeper mysteries that someone else may never know.
Some people make a commitment to exercise every day, in order to strengthen their body and improve their outward appearance; however, they neglect their soul. Yet, we are only dust and our existence lasts for just a moment in time. I have learned that the more you will study the Word of God; the more you will understand, the greater your wisdom becomes, and your knowledge of the law increases. Thus, you become stronger and it becomes easier to walk according to the will of the Lord. I spend my days committed to practicing the law and learning the Word of God; so that one day, I may become like my creator, and live for eternity.
